Christmas Music is comprised as a variety of genres of music normally performed or heard around the Christmas season. The first music used to celebrate the Christmas season was in the 13th century, used during the church liturgy. In the Middle Ages, the English combined circle dances with singing and called them carols. During the commonwealth of England the government prohibited the practice or singing Christmas carols as pagan and sinful.
In the United States the playing to Christmas music generally begins after the Thanksgiving holiday. However, recently decorations and music have begun to appear early, becoming known as ‘Christmas creep.’
