The Start of Radio

Marconi’s first radio transmissions, in 1896, were coded signals that were transmitted only about a mile far. Marconi realized that it held huge potential.  Marconi was not the first to invent the radio, however. Four years before Marconi started experimenting with wireless telegraph, Nikola Tesla, invented the theoretical model for radio. Tesla tried unsuccessful to obtain a court injunction against Marconi in 1915. In 1943 the US Supreme Court reviewed the decision. Tesla became acknowledged as the inventor of the radio – even though he did not build a working radio.
The earliest radio stations were simply radiotelegraphy systems and did not carry audio. The first claimed audio transmission that could be termed a broadcast occurred on Christmas Eve in 1906, and was made by Reginald Fessenden. Whether this broadcast actually took place is disputed.

Disney Princesses

Disney Princesses are a Walt Disney Company franchise based upon fictional characters. The six original members of the franchise were Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, and Jasmine, who were later joined by Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana, and Rapunzel.  The first Disney Princess was Snow White, who made her debut in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937.  These Princesses are either royal by birthright, marriage, or labeled a Princess for their heroism in the film.
Some have criticized Disney Princesses for being bad role models for young girls.  They believe they often portray girls are being “damsels in distress,” requiring a male to rescue them.  Some also believe that Disney Princesses also portray a negative body image for young girls.  However, many also believe that young girls will eventually grow out of the Disney Princess stage, leaving little impact upon them.

The Bible

The Bible is the best-selling book in human history.  In the West virtually every household has at least one if not more.  It has been translated into over 1,000 languages.  The Bible not only tells the story of past history but also predicts future times.  It has converted people to religion and leads them to live a more virtuous life.  The Bible details rules for living and what happens in the afterlife.  The Bible has influenced governments, art, music and many other things.  It has also influenced many people’s views towards things, such as: homosexuality, divorce, or abortion.

Photoshop

Photoshop is a photo editing program.  99.9% of images in magazines are Photoshopped.  These images can be so Photoshopped that they make women unrecognizable.  The image bellow is the same women; however the image has been so Photoshopped that she barely looks the same.  Photoshop has caused many women to have an unrealistic idea of beauty.  Their idea of beauty is based upon images they see.  Yet even the models in these images cannot obtain this beauty.  It is only on a computer that these images appear.
